Roger Montoya

Executive Director of Moving Arts Espanola

Roger Montoya is a dancer, choreographer, and arts educator based in New Mexico. Born and raised in the town of Española, Montoya has always been passionate about the arts and their power to transform lives. He began his dance career with the renowned dance company, the Martha Graham Dance Company, and later went on to perform with the Alwin Nikolais Dance Company and Pilobolus.


In 2002, Montoya co-founded Moving Arts Española, a non-profit organization that provides free

dance and arts education to underserved youth in northern New Mexico. Through his work with the

organization, he has helped countless young people find their passion for the arts and gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life.


In addition to his work with Moving Arts Española, Montoya has also served as the artistic director of the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center and has been involved in a number of community arts projects throughout northern New Mexico. He was named a Local Hero by the Santa Fe Reporter in 2016 and was a recipient of the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2017.


Montoya's commitment to using the arts as a tool for social change has made him a beloved figure in New Mexico and beyond. He continues to inspire young people and adults alike to pursue their

dreams and make a positive difference in their communities.
